Yet another successful joint convention between PICPA and ACPACI took place last Sept. 18- 20, 2009 at the Baguio Country Club, Baguio City. The 3- day event, guided by the theme “Building and Forging Relationships” showcased technical sessions that focused on technical skills and competency updates on what are the latest in the Accountancy Profession.
Senator Mar Roxas, graced the Opening Plenary by emphasizing on the theme and its relevance in the profession. Whilst Ms. Korina Sanchez did not speak anymore on her assigned topic, she graciously agreed to have picture taking with Senator Mar with all the delegates in their respective tables.
The next two days were spent in a mixture of fun and professional updates as resource speakers tackle significant topics namely:
· “Getting Updated with SEC Rules for Private Companies” by SEC’s Corporate Director, Atty. Justina F. Callangan;
· “What’s Up and What’s Hot on IFRS” with Mr. Roderick M. Danao, Assurance Partner of Isla Lipana and Co.;
· “When it’s Good News- It’s Tax Updates” by Atty. Brando C. Cabalsi, Sr. Tax Services Manager, Isla Lipana & Co.
Every technical session is followed by an open forum to give venue for each delegate to ask or discuss gray areas or clarify vague points in the presentation.
Ending on a high note is the talk of Dr. Onofre R. Pagsanghan, an Ateneo De Manila University high school teacher on “Love Your Work with Passion, it is the Meaning of Your Life.” This part of the program emphasized the necessity of giving meaning to our work by doing it with love and passion. This will give one the utmost fulfillment, in the knowledge that he was a productive person, not just by doing his job excellently, but empowering and influencing others through his works.
Aside from getting their fill in the technical aspect, each delegate also had the chance to socialize, rekindle friendship with the rest, as programs, bowling games and Game Ka Na Ba? as well as the Search for the Ms. ACPACI/PICPA – United Nation’s Search were prepared to entertain and give venue for the CPAs to build and forge a more solid relationship with each other.
