president liezlACPACI 2023: Working Harder Towards a More Impactful and Sustainable Legacy

Warmest greetings dear ACPACI members. Thank you for the overwhelming support you’ve extended to me and to our dedicated ACPACI officers and directors this year.

Our theme, “Sustaining Sustainability. Living Our Legacy.” embarks on the premise of continuing our notable achievements from the last five decades and living our legacy as we advance our profession to greater heights.
In January, we started with a board meeting and strategic planning for the yearlong activities of the association, held in Baguio. We also witnessed the Turnover and Induction Ceremonies of TMAP.

In February, our 1st General Membership Meeting, Turnover and Induction Ceremonies, ACPACI Central Luzon Chapter Officers Induction and Induction of New Members was held at EDSA Shangri-La with Hon. Sen. Joseph Victor G. Estrada as our inducting officer. We offered our blockbuster free webinar with Mr. Jose T. Sio and Dean Patricia M. Empleo as resource speakers. They tackled the topic, “Addressing the Perceived Competency Gap: From Classroom to Workplace”. We’ve also accepted various invitations from BIR, PRBOA Centenary Committee, PICPA and USAID, Board and Committee Meetings, and capped the month with a virtual Townhall meeting to discuss the various plans and projects of ACPACI committees.

Come March, we held our 2nd webinar which focused on the 2023 Tax Filing and Other Compliance Reminders for Accountants: BIR and SEC Regulatory Updates with Ms. Marivic A. Galban from the BIR, and Ms. Fideles B. de Guzman Pe Benito from the SEC as resource speakers. We conducted several CSR activities in celebration of ACPACI’s 50th Anniversary and the Centenary of the Accountancy Profession in the Philippines. We kicked off with the Manila Bay Clean Up drive on a Saturday morning last March 11, 2023, followed by a tree planting initiative at the La Mesa Nature Reserve in the afternoon. We held the 24th Search for Outstanding Accounting Students of the Philippines.

We also had representations at the PICPA PQF Summit: Spotlight on the Commerce and Industry Sector Webinar. We celebrated the 50th Anniversary of ACPACI at the Manila Hotel, honoring the pillars of the association as well as the Association’s contribution to the society and the Accountancy profession. We also participated in the centennial celebration of the Philippine Accountancy Profession at the Manila Hotel last March 17,2023, with ACPACI’s 1984 President Roque A. Lim and Ms. Estelita C. Aguirre, ACPACI 2007 President as Centenary awardees.

As expected, April was the busiest month for accountants. We had a virtual board meeting as well as the meet and greet with ACPACI Central Luzon Chapter Officers via videoconference. The induction of the new chapter president of ACPACI Nueva Ecija was held in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

We met up with the Accountancy Week Celebration (AWC) Committee and the ACPACI Board at the PICPA office. I flew to Davao to personally meet and connect with the ACPACI Davao Chapter president. We engaged in various CSR activities in collaboration with PICPA CSR Committee and ACPACI Central Luzon Chapter with two schools as beneficiaries, Bangkal Elementary School and Bangkal Resettlement Elementary School. I delivered an inspirational message addressed to the JPIA students of Baliwag Polytechnic College.

In June, we held a CSR activity with the Missionaries of Charity for the Elderly as the beneficiary. We convened for our 2nd General Membership Meeting focusing on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Sustainability and Holistic Health Summit with Mr. Ferdinand K. Constantino, SMC Group CFO, as Keynote Speaker; Ms. Catherine H. Lipana-Gomez, Ms. Katrina F. Francisco, Ms. Kristine I. Aguirre and Dr. Annebelle D. Aherrera as resource speakers, which was held at Holiday Inn Makati last June 9, 2023.

ACPACI members and guest joined our webinar on Creating a Multi-Generation Workforce to Optimize Operational Efficiency (Diversity and Inclusion) and Digital Disruption: Augmented Humans and Superhumans, with Mr. Edwin C. Ebreo and Ms. Maria Rosell S. Gomez as resource speakers, respectively. We concluded the month by participating in the focus group discussion spearheaded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Angeles City.

In a blink of an eye, six months have already gone by. These aforementioned activities are and will be featured in our social media accounts and in this issue of our newsletter. Our accomplishments are the result of the concerted efforts of our board of directors, committee chairs, co-chairs, advisers and the unwavering support of our membership.

As we are already into the second half of our term, do enjoy the AWC program, be excited for our 1st ACPACI International Conference to be held in Vietnam at the end of this month, and please join our Annual National Convention in September.
We vow to nurture all the more our members professional growth and career development in the coming months. With limited time, let’s continue to work together and achieve greater things for our beloved ACPACI. Let’s leave our share by “Living Our Legacy” for ACPACI.

To God be All the Glory!
